Transforming Climate Despair with Action with Debbie Mytels WILPF Virtual meeting April 16 at 7 PM PDT:

Most educated people today are familiar with the cause of climate change, so the important question is with “What can we do about it?” Rather than sinking into despair, we need a new mantra: “Optimism is the only viable strategy.” California already produces abundant renewable energy — so we can shut down dirty oil pipelines and cap dangerous gas wells. It’s time to electrify everything! Debbie will give specific examples of how we can go beyond recycling to transform our homes, businesses, and communities — and work together towards an equitable future for all.

Debbie Mytels retired two years ago from a 30-year career with Acterra, an environmental action non-profit in Palo Alto in order to spend more time on climate protection projects, including Peninsula Interfaith Climate Action (PICA) and the Fossil Free Buildings for Silicon Valley campaign. Like many retirees, she tries to get in some "fun," too, which for her includes puttering around in her vegetable garden, singing in the (virtual) Unitarian Church choir and, before COVID, leading hikes for the Midpen Open Space District. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she wants to give her five grandchildren a future on a healthy planet and an example of positive action that creates a better world for all.
